Music Photographers

This is the work of Michael Robert Williams, A music photographer. This image is effective as it portrays the band in front of a green light with nothing else, a good use of simplicity combined with the bands visual integrity.

This is a very interesting portrait from the same photographer, This is a good use of nature as it sets the photographed artist in somewhat of a haze as she is standing behind and in front of leaves with different levels of focus around her, Placing a possible emphasis on her and her thought pattern in a somewhat confused state.

This is an effective and appropriate image as I am photographing a drummers portrait. This portrays the drummer whilst she is working, showing her dedication during playing whilst not taking away from the portraiture genre.

This from photographer Chris Owyoung, a New York based muisc photogapher. This is a very effective portrait of Adele as it unusually shows her backstage during the preparation stages. Combined with the subjects stern facial expression, this photograph portrays Adele as always ready despite not being on stage yet.

This is from the same photographer and is a very effective performance shot as the focus combined with the lighting on the artist portrays them very focused whilst maintaing passion.

Radio Jingle Evaluation.

For my news jingle I would change the choice of instrumental in order to fit in better with the choice of music for the show promo and the station identity. For my show promo, I could have improved the enthusiasm in the choice of sound effects as well as my recorded voice over’s. My radio jingle was very much what I wanted it to be in that it contained in my eyes the perfect song choice, featuring Common – The People, Kid Cudi – Up, Up And Away and Common – Start The Show, in that particular order. The station identity could have been a lot more descriptive about the criteria of the radio show; it comes off somewhat bland due to having a single, repetitive instrumental in the background, giving listeners no real idea of what the station is about. Listeners would have to tune in often before they understood the genres my station featured.

The use of Nujabes – Voice of Autumn for my news jingle is a very relaxed, calming instrumental which at the time, I thought would put listeners at ease to hear the approaching news, but, has no real connection with the track list during radio play. The station as a whole could have had a lot more in common with itself in that, every sector of each broadcast could all feature similar music of each genre. I do not believe any station should feature a small minded amount of genres, but the vagueness of my stations genre could have been more focused and easier to place.

For my show promo I aimed to capture the tastes of people who appreciate inspiring artists despite the age of their work, and I mixed in fairly old work with the new up and coming genre defying artists which, I thought many listeners would appreciate. The aim of my station is to provide inspiring hip-hop which was made to tell stories and to connect with whomever is listening, not just what is on the charts. There are many people that do not appreciate something purely because of its place in the charts, but because of the story they told and where the listener was in their life when they heard it.

My news jingle could have been more descriptive on what part of the show it is, as I mentioned earlier, listeners would have to tune in often in order to figure out what the news jingle indicates. It was not made obvious, which is where I went wrong. My show promo was my best effort overall in that it contained songs which outlines what my station is about, they act as the tasters of things to come on my show, which I thought was good to have at the start of each show. My show promo could however, of contained more enthusiastic, descriptive voice over’s which tell the listener what they are listening to. The voice over’s overall were lacking in enthusiasm and details in that they were bland to hear and not entirely interesting, that is where I went wrong with the voice over’s.
